What a fun day!! What weather... I told Gabi the God was scared of her and we would have the best weather...and we did. The participants came from as far away as The UK and Greece, and all came for a variety of reasons. Some out of curiousity and some because they just "knew" they had to be in the class....For me too. What do I mean by this...? Well it has been something I really resisted... Why? because I judge my ass off because I would keep forgetting a particular line... and seem to have done this most of my life...and because I just know somewhere I would be judged by people for teaching something from NZ (you only have to read comments about Dwayne -the rock- Johnson's haka in his latest movie to see how self righteous many of my cousins are) and then I did some research and found five videos on YouTube showing the Kamate haka. Interesting that each was different...each had slight variations on the words and pronounciation and even the actions...and no negative remarks... (interesting).. Then I found a video of the 1973 Allblacks doing.. a haka... only 3 people knew what they were doing..the rest looked pathetic and I felt embarrassed about my judgement of me. Then I found one saying most amazing haka...and watched the boys do a haka to the french...and felt sad because again if felt it was just for the camera...then I found the women's all black team after they one the world cup...Now thats a haka!! and thats when I dropped my judgements of me not getting it right and being willing to talk to others about the "Energy" of the Haka. The a class participant showed me her healing group doing a hak they learned from a European man who studied Kahunna in Hawaii...that was enough to drive me to accept the invitations to show what its really about... |
