Two Days of Lomi Lomi - from the space of Alchemy
Lomi Lomi is a form of healing and nurturing. Wikipedia tells us… “Lomilomi is a word in the Hawaiian and Samoan languages. Lomi means "to knead, to rub, or soothe; to work in and out, as the paws of a contented cat."[1] It may also mean "to take and turn, to shift" as in "the sacred shift within you that is inspired by the healing kahuna..." said twice "lomilomi" for emphasis”
In New Zealand we have Romiromi which incorporates many of the same beliefs and principals. We talk about your body being the “Whare” or house. There are four walls to keep the roof above you level…Emotional, Psychological, Physical, and Spiritual. When one is out of balance, the house can crumble. And so, as we touch the body, we are asking what is required here regain balance?
I have watched as a man (as big as me) stood on a petite lady and used his balance and feet to massage and move this lady’s body while she lay in bliss receiving her treatment. I have watched as practitioners barely touch the skin and create magic as people let go pain and emotions.
What we will be doing/gifting is a style of massage and touch that incorporates long flowing strokes (from the feet to the neck face, and even scalp) where once you begin you aren’t “not touching” the body. You will learn how to use your forearms, hands and body to move in a dance with the body so that you are comfortable, not hurting yourself, as you work with the body. We will also learn how to stretch the body kindly and gently, as a part of this flowing movement, consciously aware of any resistance as we move. Being in allowance and asking … “What is this and how can I assist the body to let go…without the body having to “do” anything?” Someone asked… “So, what do we do?” my short answer is... “We will meditate, connect and we will massage differently to anything most of you would have given before… or received before. This something I struggle to describe as for me it is an “experience” that must be felt and received as you become consciously connected to the body and being in front of you.”
This technique can be given by two people one each side of the body working in silent unison, or individually. When in the flow of this space, the two of you can be blindfolded and still mirror each other in flow and touch. This is an amazing experience for the givers and the receiver.
So, what do I plan to create in this class… so that you can feel and receive this place / space? We will be spending time with energy awareness, meditation, connecting to each other, and learning what it is to “really” touch someone from a place of no judgement, or hidden agenda (Because in this work nothing is hidden). We will also look at where we have not allowed ourselves to say stop! Or yes please…that felt so very good can I have more of that…and to simply receive the joy of receiving….and gifting. We will also look at what emotions and fears come up as we receive from someone in the class. This is a important p[art of the learning and the class. This is where we hold space for each other in allowance and gratitude. This is where we help others to let go the past. If all you want to do is massage and touch bodies during this class then don’t come. I mean it… don’t come. If you are willing to be vulnerable. Willing to be in allowance of others as they let go. Willing to be space so you can also look at these things in your own being… then come to this class.
I remind you that this is really only a two-day taster. I spent nearly two weeks with my teachers (and friends) letting go points of view of bodies and of my “self”. And then six months practicing to be that space. We did sacred ceremonies at dawn, meditative walks and even getting past the mind by sitting in very cold pools of water along a stream in the forest. In this class we won’t have the possibility of creating this environment with pools etc … but the energy and space required is what we are choosing to be.
Please bring with you two very large towels and a single sheet and if you have a favourite oil that you would like used on you, bring this as well. Also you are welcome to bring a bikini or old underwear as this is a full body massage (remember you will get oil on them that may not wash out). Please leave all your points of view about what is allowed in the way of aromatherapy oils and techniques at the door… you can take them home with you later, if you still think them important.
